About the NDIS

What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding to eligible Australians living with a disability to access supports and services that help them live more independently and participate in everyday life.

Funding through the NDIS may be used to access supports that are considered reasonable and necessary to help participants pursue their goals, increase independence, and support social and economic participation. Supports are provided in line with individual NDIS plans and funding arrangements.

How the NDIS works

Once approved for the NDIS, participants receive a personalised plan that outlines their goals and the funding available to help achieve them. This funding can be used for a range of supports, including assistance with daily living, community participation, and capacity building.

Supports may be delivered at home, in the community, or in other settings, depending on the participant’s needs and preferences.

For more information about the NDIS—including eligibility, planning, and participant funding—visit the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) website.
